SmartKit AI: Common Issues & Solutions

Table of Contents

Missing API key

If nothing is working, first ensure you have entered your API key in Settings → Providers for the provider you selected. Without an API key, requests won’t go through. Double-check for typos and that you saved the settings.

Jobs stuck in “Queued”

If batch jobs remain queued and never progress, it’s likely an issue with WP-Cron not running. WordPress relies on visits to trigger cron events. Make sure your site is getting traffic or set up a server cron to call wp-cron.php regularly. Some hosting providers disable WP-Cron by default, requiring a manual cron job. Resolving this will allow queued jobs to execute.

Items blocked or not generating

If you see log entries or job items marked “Blocked,” you may have hit a budget or rate limit you set in Cost Controls. Check the Cost Controls settings to see if you exceeded a daily budget or the user hit a rate cap. The plugin will prevent further generation until limits reset or are increased. To fix this, either wait for the next period or adjust the limits as needed.

Output looks incorrect or garbled

If the AI output is formatted oddly or not what you expected, verify your Output Format setting. For example, if you expected HTML but got markdown or JSON, ensure Settings → Text Settings → Output Format is set to your desired format. Also consider if your prompt or template might be instructing the AI in a confusing way. Tweaking the prompt or format setting can improve the results.

Errors from AI provider

Occasionally, you might get an error message (seen in the log or an alert) such as an authentication error, rate limit from the provider, or content policy violation. In such cases, check the Logs page for the exact error message. “Unauthorized” means re-check your API key. “Rate limit” means the provider is throttling you – you may need to slow down or upgrade your API plan. Content policy errors mean the prompt or output was flagged – try rephrasing the prompt.

If issues persist after these checks, you can seek support. Provide details from the Help page’s system info and any error messages from logs.
